Kyrgyzstan, UN discuss cooperation on climate change

Bishkek, June 12, 2026 /Kabar/. Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan Akyl Toktobaev met with Antje Grawe, UN Resident Coordinator in Kyrgyzstan. The parties discussed priority areas of cooperation in climate policy, environmental protection, and sustainable development.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, Akyl Toktobaev noted the adoption of the Law "On Climate Action," which creates the legal basis for implementing national climate policy, fulfilling the country's international commitments on climate change, and attracting climate finance.

Particular attention was paid to the implementation of Kyrgyzstan's Updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0), mobilizing climate finance, strengthening national capacity for monitoring, reporting, and assessing progress, and integrating climate change adaptation and biodiversity conservation into national programs and projects.

The parties also discussed air quality, improving environmental monitoring systems, reducing pollution, and further developing interagency cooperation following multilateral dialogues on air quality.

Furthermore, they discuss preparations for the Bishkek+25 Mountain Summit and promoting mountain ecosystem conservation and climate resilience in mountain regions at international forums, including preparations for COP31.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their commitment to further strengthening their partnership and implementing joint initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable development goals, increasing climate resilience, and preserving Kyrgyzstan's natural potential.
