Bishkek, April 22, 2025. /Kabar/. Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Head of the Presidential Administration Adylbek Kasymaliev, as part of a working trip to Washington on the sidelines of the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group, held constructive talks with the Managing Director for Operations of the World Bank Anna Bjerde. According to the Cabinet of Ministers, Adylbek Kasymaliev expressed sincere gratitude to the World Bank for many years of fruitful partnership and significant contribution to the socio-economic development of the Kyrgyz Republic, emphasizing that joint efforts allow achieving tangible results. He expressed confidence that this meeting will give new impetus to further strengthening and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation.
The head of the Cabinet informed Anna Bjerde in detail about the current economic situation in the country, noting the stable high rates of economic growth, which over the past three years have averaged 9%, and an impressive 13% growth was recorded in the first quarter of 2025. He emphasized that the dynamic growth is due to the development of key sectors of the economy, such as industry, construction and services. Adylbek Kasymaliev presented to Anne Bjerda the key provisions of the approved National Development Program of the Kyrgyz Republic until 2030, emphasizing that its main goal is to ensure sustainable and inclusive economic growth, improve the quality of life of citizens and comprehensive development of key sectors of the economy. The program is based on four strategic development vectors: accelerated industrialization, creation of a regional trade and logistics hub, development of competitive agriculture and tourism, as well as the transition to "green" energy. During the meeting, special attention was paid to the implementation of the strategic project for the construction of the Kambarata HPP-1, which is an absolute priority for the Kyrgyz Republic and is important for ensuring energy security not only for the country, but also for the entire Central Asian region. The head of the Cabinet of Ministers reported that the Kyrgyz government continues to finance preparatory work from its own funds, and work on updating the feasibility study (FS) and developing an environmental impact assessment (EIA) is being carried out in accordance with the schedule and will be completed in May of this year.
"The signing of the historic Treaty on the state border between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan was an important step in strengthening mutual trust, good neighborliness, stability and improving the investment climate in Central Asia. As you know, a similar agreement on the state border was previously signed with the Republic of Uzbekistan. The successful and final resolution of the long-term border issue indicates the strengthening of regional cooperation and the creation of a solid foundation for the effective implementation of the Kambarata HPP-1 project, which is of strategic importance for the entire region," Adylbek Kasymaliev emphasized. The head of the Cabinet expressed strong hope for active support from the World Bank when considering the issue of financing this project at a meeting of the WB Board of Directors in the second half of 2025.
Anna Bjerde noted the real economic achievements of Kyrgyzstan and congratulated the head of the Cabinet on the historic signing of the border agreement with the Republic of Tajikistan, emphasizing that she had been closely following this issue and believes that this became possible thanks to the leadership qualities of the heads of the two states.
In the context of discussing the construction of the Kambarata HPP-1, she expressed full readiness to support this regional project.
"You can count on us for the Kambarata HPP-1 project," Anna Bjerde said.
At the end of the meeting, a ceremony was held to sign an agreement on the implementation of a rapid response mechanism for emergency situations.
