Bishkek, June 9, 2026 /Kabar/. The Peace Corps in the Kyrgyz Republic yesterday welcomed 27 new American educators who will begin training to become Peace Corps Volunteers. These Trainees will support English language education in secondary schools and universities across the country upon the completion of their training. The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Innovation invited these American educators to support our mutual goals of securing prosperity and economic independence of the citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Over the next 11 weeks, the Trainees will participate in comprehensive pre-service training that includes Kyrgyz language and culture, Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), and co-teaching methodologies. This preparation is designed to equip them with the skills and cultural understanding needed to work effectively within Kyrgyzstan’s educational system.

Trainees who successfully complete the program will be sworn in as Peace Corps Volunteers in August and will begin two years of service. Volunteers will work alongside local English teachers to help strengthen their teaching capacity and improve language skills of students throughout Chui, Naryn, Issyk-Kul, Talas, Osh, and Jalal-Abad oblasts.

Since 1993, the Peace Corps has provided nearly 1,400 Volunteer experts to support locally prioritized projects across every oblast of the Kyrgyz Republic. Volunteers serve at the invitation of the Kyrgyz Republic in sectors defined by the Kyrgyz government. The goal of the Peace Corps is to promote mutual understanding and strengthen community capacity through collaborative work. Peace Corps Volunteers live and work side by side with community members at the local level. Together, they build relationships, share cultures and knowledge, and contribute to education efforts throughout the country.
