Kyrgyzstan, Xinjiang to increase capacity on border checkpoints

Bishkek, May 14, 2026 /Kabar/. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers – Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Erlist Akunbekov held talks via videoconference with Chairman of the People's Government of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China Erkin Tuniyaz.

In accordance with the meeting agenda, representatives of government agencies from Kyrgyzstan and China participated in the talks.

During the meeting, the parties discussed increasing the capacity of the Torugart and Irkeshtam checkpoints located on the Kyrgyz-Chinese border.

They also touched upon the development and promotion of agricultural exports from Kyrgyzstan to China. To date, Kyrgyzstan and China have signed approximately 17 protocols on agricultural exports. In the area of ​​mutual trade, the Chinese side proposed the creation of a cargo terminal at the Osh airport.

Furthermore, the issue of establishing a temporary road for the passage of specialized equipment, construction equipment, and other cargo into Kyrgyzstan for the construction of the Barskoon-Uchturfan-Aksu highway, where construction work is currently underway.

Following the talks, the parties agreed to continue working together to further strengthen trade and economic relations, transport and logistics ties, and cooperation in other areas.
