Bishkek, Feb. 6, 2026. /Kabar/. National Statistical Committee (NSC) estimated the size of the non-observed (hidden, informal, and illegal) economy in Kyrgyzstan at 308 billion soms by the end of 2024.
Its share in gross domestic product increased by 0.3 percentage points compared to 2023, reaching 19.5%.
In recent years, the absolute value of the non-observed economy has been growing. Specifically, its size was 128.9 billion soms in 2020, 256.5 billion soms in 2023, and reached 308 billion soms in 2024.
At the same time, the share of the hidden economy in GDP decreased to 3.8%, down from 4.5% the previous year. Meanwhile, the share of informal production activity in the household sector, on the contrary, increased – from 14.7% in 2023 to 15.7% in 2024.
The following activities accounted for the bulk of the non-observed economy in 2024:
Wholesale and retail trade, including automobile and motorcycle repair – 11.2% of GDP;
manufacturing – 2.6%;
construction – 1.7%;
transportation – 1.1%;
hotel and restaurant activities – 0.9%.
