Bishkek, Sept. 22, 2026 /Kabar/. Erlist Akunbekov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan attended a conference with the participation by heads of transport and logistics companies from Kyrgyzstan and China during his working visit to China.
The meeting was organized to foster the joint development of transport corridors and to leverage opportunities for cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and China in the transport and logistics sectors. During the event, Erlist Akunbekov noted that Kyrgyzstan is becoming a reliable transport hub connecting China with countries in Central Asia, the Eurasian Economic Union, the Middle East, and Europe.
"Currently, alongside the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway project, we are constructing the Balykchy–Kochkor–Makmal railway in Kyrgyzstan. Given the project's significant economic and international importance, Kyrgyzstan is prepared to provide state support through various cooperation models, including granting it the status of a priority national project," he said.
It was also noted that four key stations—Torugart, Zherge-Tal, Makmal, and Jalal-Abad—would be built along the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway, incorporating free economic and industrial zones. The Kyrgyz side expressed interest in collaborating with partners to establish major industrial and logistics centers.
Furthermore, it was highlighted that, in addition to rail transport, Kyrgyzstan’s international road transport corridors connecting the country to China via the Irkeshtam, Torugart, and Bedel border crossings are actively developing. Prospects for new transport cooperation in this area were also identified.
Concluding his remarks, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Erlist Akunbekov called on Chinese companies to jointly develop safe, sustainable, and cost-effective transport routes by leveraging Kyrgyzstan's transit potential.
The conference was attended by executives from over ten Chinese transport and logistics companies, as well as heads of Kyrgyz companies operating in the sector.
Participants presented reports on their activities and highlighted significant prospects for cooperation in the transport sector. The roundtable served as a platform for identifying specific projects and establishing direct business ties between companies. Erlist Akunbekov also met with Sun Hailiang, Chairman of the Board of China Communications Construction Group Co., Ltd., and Du Fei, Chairman of the Board of China Road and Bridge Corporation.
During the meetings, it was noted that current global conditions require the effective implementation of joint infrastructure projects to launch new international transport and logistics routes. The parties emphasized the need to further deepen cooperation in this area.
These meetings took place during the working visit of Erlist Akunbekov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, to Beijing to participate in the Global Sustainable Transport Forum.
