Bishkek, March 25, 2026. /Kabar/. Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that the State Administration of Migration of China has launched a pilot project for online registration of foreign citizens staying outside hotels.
According to the department, this system has been implemented in the provinces of Hebei, Liaoning, Zhejiang, Hubei, Sichuan, as well as the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Chongqing since March 20. In the future, it is planned to expand this practice throughout the country.
According to current Chinese law, foreign citizens staying in hotels must be registered by the hotel administration, and then the information will be provided to the public security authorities. If they live outside the hotel, the foreign citizen or the host must register at their actual place of residence within 24 hours.
According to the ministry of foreign affairs, citizens can register online through the mobile application of the Chinese immigration service "民公局 12367", as well as through mini-programs in the "WeChat" and "Alipay" systems. At the same time, the possibility of providing information in the traditional manner by personally contacting the public security authorities remains. Online registration has the same legal force as registration by personally contacting them.
