Ministry of Agriculture plans to implement agricultural insurance project in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, March 25, 2026 /Kabar/. Erlist Akunbekov, Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, met with a delegation from the InsuResilience Solutions Fund (ISF), the ministry's press service reported.

The discussion focused on livestock insurance against climate risks. The minister noted that agricultural insurance is an important support for farmers, including compensation for losses due to livestock losses.

Starting in 2025, ISF will implement index-based insurance subsidies in the Ak-Tala and At-Bashy districts of Naryn Oblast in collaboration with the UN World Food Programme.

The parties agreed to continue implementing agricultural insurance and explore pilot projects in Naryn Oblast.

For reference: The InsuResilience Solutions Fund has been set up by KfW Development Bank on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany, represented by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The Fund commenced its activities in 2018 whereas its funding operations started in 2019. The fund promotes the development of innovative and sustainable Climate Risk Insurance products in developing and emerging countries, to improve the resilience of vulnerable households against the impacts of climate change and natural disasters.
