Over 8,000 road accidents registered in Kyrgyzstan in 2025

Bishkek, Jan. 20, 2026. /Kabar/. Over 8,000 road accidents were registered in Kyrgyzstan in the first 12 months of 2025.

The main causes of accidents were speeding, improper maneuvering, driving into oncoming traffic, drunk driving, failure to yield at intersections, and failure to observe road signs and keep safe distances.

These data were announced on Monday during a summary of the operational and service activities of the Main Directorate for Road Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic for 2025.

The operational meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Oktyabr Urmambetov, Head of the Internal Investigations Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Ulan Biybosunov, Head of the Main Directorate for Road Safety Azenbek Kozukeev, and heads of territorial departments.

At the beginning of the meeting, the best employees of the year were awarded, after which achievements and identified shortcomings were discussed. The deputy minister of internal affairs instructed that strict discipline be maintained, the level of professional training of employees be improved, recruitment controls be strengthened, and drivers be treated fairly.

Particular attention was paid to digitalization, the development of a service-based approach, interaction with local governments, as well as strengthening oversight of taxi driver licensing and accident prevention.

Following the meeting, instructions were given to promptly address the identified deficiencies, and disciplinary action was taken against a number of employees.
