Bishkek, Sept 24, 2025. /Kabar/. We regard unjustified sanctions as interference in the internal affairs of the country and as pressure that hinders the development of our still emerging economy, noted Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov on September 23, speaking at the General Debate of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The head of state emphasized that Kyrgyzstan is making every effort to strengthen its economy independently.
He emphasized that Kyrgyzstan has strictly complied with and will continue to comply with its international obligations.
"However, we cannot sacrifice the interests of our citizens and the country's economic development!" the head of state stated.
He stated that the sanctions imposed on Kyrgyzstan are based on false information disseminated by certain non-governmental organizations and unscrupulous individuals.
In this regard, President Sadyr Zhaparov stated that the state is ready to accept independent international audits to thoroughly review the activities of Kyrgyz banks.
He noted that in 2024, European Union countries traded $141 billion with Russia, $36 billion of which was imported from Russia. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom, which imposed sanctions on two of our banks, traded $2.2 billion with Russia that same year.
In this regard, he noted that some countries reserve the right to cooperate with Russia, defending their own interests, while prohibiting others from doing so.
"You ask us not to cooperate with Russia, yet you are actively developing trade and economic ties with it. We have far more economic ties with Russia than you do," the head of state emphasized.
Therefore, the president noted that Kyrgyzstan cannot refuse to cooperate with Russia economically.
President Sadyr Zhaparov added that Kyrgyzstan does not seek confrontation with others, but cooperates with virtually the entire world, pursuing a multi-vector policy.
He noted that, for example, Kyrgyzstan annually sells $1 billion worth of gold to England.
"My primary responsibility as president is to ensure the security of my citizens and the country, as well as improve their economic situation," Sadyr Zhaparov noted.
