Symposium on restoration forests, degraded lands of Kyrgyzstan held in Manas city

Bishkek, April 3, 2026. /Kabar/. Manas city hosts symposium on "Implementation of Zhashyl ​​Muras (Green heritage) campaign in the mountainous regions of Kyrgyz Republic. The event was held as part of the Five-Year Action Plan for the Development of Mountain Regions for 2023–2027, according to the administration of Kyrgyz president.

The event was organized by Dinara Kemelova, Special Representative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic for the Mountain Agenda, with the support of the Asian Forestry Cooperation Organization (AFОCO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in the Kyrgyz Republic, and Jalal-Abad oblast governor.

Representatives of the presidential administration, relevant ministries and agencies, local governments and local self-government bodies, as well as international organizations, financial institutions, and the diplomatic corps participated in the event.

The symposium served as a platform for discussing sustainable development priorities in mountain regions and promoting initiatives to restore forests and degraded lands, green areas to prevent desertification, and develop agroforestry, as well as exchanging experiences in these areas.

Measures for restoring forests and degraded pastures and promoting low-carbon economy projects were discussed. Particular emphasis was placed on expanding cooperation with international partners, attracting investment, and coordinating the efforts of government agencies, farmers, international organizations, and financial institutions.

Considerable attention was also given to the practical aspects of implementing greening projects, including scientific justification for planting, soil analysis, tree species selection, and ensuring survival and irrigation. Successful examples of farmer initiatives, demonstrating the potential for scaling up such practices at the local level, were of particular interest.

The symposium concluded with a discussion and exchange of practical proposals, highlighting the importance of coordinating the work of ministries and agencies, local authorities, international organizations, and local communities to implement conservation initiatives and achieve sustainable development results in mountainous regions.
