Bishkek, March 24, 2025. /Kabar /. Today is the World Tuberculosis Day.

Head of the WHO country office in Kyrgyzstan Liviu Vedrasco said at a briefing in Bishkek thatthis year the World Tuberculosis Day is held under the motto "Yes, we can eliminate tuberculosis! Commitments, investments, results!".

Vedrasco said that tuberculosis affects more than 10 million people every year, taking the lives of over 1 million people. “If we compare, the same number of people die from road accidents. Around the world, 57 million people die every year from various diseases and old age. Of these, 1 million people die from tuberculosis. A lot has been done around the world. From these efforts and investments over the past quarter century, 70 million people have been saved. Kyrgyzstan is no exception. At the UN summit, which was exceptional, all leaders of countries confirmed their commitment to eliminating this disease. Elimination, not prevention," he said. Liviu Vedrasco recalled that tuberculosis is not a disease that affects everyone, like the flu or acute respiratory viral infections. Mostly, people who suffer from tuberculosis are poor and do not have good living conditions.
