Tokyo Summer Deaflympics 2025: Kyrgyz athlete wins gold

Bishkek, Nov. 24, 2025. /Kabar/. On November 24, Kyrgyz athlete Adilet Zhaparkulov became champion of the XXV Summer Deaflympics held in Tokyo, Japan.

According to the State Agency for Physical Culture and Sports of the Kyrgyz Republic, Adilet Zhaparkulov's victory marked Kyrgyzstan's first gold medal in the history of the Deaflympics and the country's first medal in freestyle wrestling. He competed in the 74 kg weight class.

Adilet Zhaparkulov began his competition on November 23 with a round of 16 match, defeating Kazakhstan's Turgynbay Gassyr 3-1. In the quarterfinals, he faced Belarusian athlete Alexei Kolesnik and defeated him 7-2. In the semifinals, the Kyrgyzstani defeated Denis Trekhubenko, finishing the match with a score of 5-2. On November 24, in the final bout, Adilet Zhaparkulov defeated Iranian athlete Abolfasi Zohravand 3-0 to become the champion of the XXV Summer Deaflympic Games.

The Deaflympics is an international "Olympics for Deaf people." This is an international multi-sport event for deaf athletes held every four years, organised by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD). The first Deaflympics were held in Paris, France in 1924. Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics will be the 100th anniversary commemorative Games and held for the first time in Japan.
