Bishkek, March 12, 2026. /Kabar/. From March 10 to 12, 2026, a mission of international experts from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is visiting the Kyrgyz Republic to support the modernization of the pharmaceutical industry and the implementation of international standards of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), the Economy Ministry reported.
The visit is part of the strategic cooperation between the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and UNIDO under the Country Partnership Program for the Kyrgyz Republic for 2025–2029 (CPP), in which the pharmaceutical industry is identified as one of the priority areas.
On March 10, 2026, UNIDO experts met in Bishkek with representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Ministry of Health, and domestic pharmaceutical companies. During the meeting, priorities for the development of the pharmaceutical industry, the requirements of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) for GMP standards, and mechanisms for supporting the modernization of pharmaceutical production were discussed.
On the same day, a workshop entitled "Strengthening Compliance of the Pharmaceutical Industry in the Kyrgyz Republic with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Requirements: Assessment Results, International Standards, and Next Steps" was held with the participation of representatives of government agencies, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and international experts.
During the event, UNIDO experts presented the results of their assessment of the level of compliance of domestic pharmaceutical companies with GMP requirements, as well as an overview of international standards and regulatory practices. Particular attention was paid to the importance of implementing GMP standards for improving the quality and safety of medicines, as well as expanding the export opportunities of Kyrgyz manufacturers, including in the markets of the Eurasian Economic Union.
Furthermore, participants were presented with the results of a survey of pharmaceutical manufacturers conducted by UNIDO to determine the current level of industry readiness for the implementation of GMP standards and identify key areas for further development and modernization of production processes.
As part of the mission, UNIDO experts will also conduct technical visits to pharmaceutical companies in the country to assess the current level of GMP standards implementation and identify needs for technical and expert support.
The final meeting of the mission will be held on March 12, 2026, to determine further steps for developing cooperation and developing a technical support initiative aimed at strengthening the production capacity of Kyrgyzstan's pharmaceutical industry.
This initiative is expected to contribute to improving the quality and safety of medicines, developing the national pharmaceutical industry, and expanding the export potential of domestic producers.
