Using satellite imagery, the Uzbekspace Agency has initiated a pilot project to determine soil salinity levels, UzA reported.
Detailed information about the project was presented at a seminar held at the Ministry of Digital Technologies in collaboration with Uzbekspace and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.
The seminar’s main goal was to exchange views with ministries and agencies working in this field and implement the project based on their recommendations.
Representatives of the ESCAP and the Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the event.
It was noted that 90 cultivated fields in Zarbdor district and adjacent areas of Jizzakh region have been selected as experimental sites for the project’s implementation. The project will study soil salinity levels and collect samples for laboratory analysis. This initiative will enable the accurate tracking of highly salinized lands in the country, identify fertile areas for agricultural activities, and provide farmers with comprehensive information on the condition of their fields. It will also create opportunities for the rational distribution of resources in agricultural land use, facilitate agronomic measures based on soil salinity levels, and consider local soil and climatic conditions.
