Bishkek, Feb. 10, 2026 /Kabar/. This year, 36 schools will be built in Bishkek, Bishkek Mayor Aibek Dzhunushaliev announced at the final board meeting of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Education.

According to him, construction of 20 schools has already begun, financed by the national budget.

"In addition, 13 more schools will be built in the capital using extra-budgetary funds through the Saudi Fund for Development. The remaining three schools will be built using local funds. It's worth noting that over the past five years, nine schools have been built and 15 additional school buildings have been commissioned. Although they are called additional buildings, in terms of scale, this is equivalent to the construction of full-fledged schools, so I can confidently say that 24 schools have been built in the capital," the mayor said.

The mayor emphasized that, due to demographic growth and internal migration, the number of students in the capital's educational institutions has increased significantly.

"While approximately 160,000 children were enrolled in city schools in 2019-2020, today that number has reached 275,000. This is due to demographic growth and high levels of internal migration. Over the past five years, the number of schoolchildren in the capital has increased almost 1.5-fold. In response to these challenges, large-scale infrastructure development is underway," noted Aibek Dzhunushaliev.

He also added that the education system is currently a key factor in the city's socioeconomic development.
