Bishkek, April 8, 2026 /Kabar/. Akzhol Makhmudov, member of the Kyrgyz national Greco-Roman wrestling team, won the gold medal at the Asian Championship in Bishkek and became a four-time Asian champion.
According to the State Agency for Physical Culture and Sports, he competed in the 77 kg weight class. In his opening bout, the Kyrgyzstani defeated Japanese wrestler Isami Horikita with a score of 7:3.
In the quarterfinals, Makhmudov convincingly defeated Kazakhstan's Kaharman Kissymetov with a score of 9:1.
In the semifinals, he left no chance for Uzbekistan's Doniyorkhon Nakibov, finishing the bout 9-0 and advancing to the final.
In the decisive bout against Iran's Ali Oskou, with the score tied 3-3, Akzhol Makhmudov was awarded the victory based on the quality of his performance.
Thus, the Kyrgyzstani wrestler won the gold medal at the Asian Championship and became the Asian champion for the fourth time in his career.
