Bishkek, Aug. 26, 2026 /Kabar/. On August 5, the Kosh-Dobo North No. 2 tunnel on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway was completed. China Railway International LLC reports.
The total length of the tunnel is 209.6 meters. It is a single-track tunnel with one tunnel shaft, located on a horizontal section of track in a curve. The maximum burial depth is 41 meters.
According to the company, the geological conditions in the construction area are predominantly silty soils, argillites with sandstone interlayers. The rock mass is characterized by low stability, and the rocks are prone to soaking and disintegration when exposed to water. Therefore, during construction, there were risks of deformation of the surrounding rock mass, localized water inflows, and other adverse geological phenomena.
Tunnel excavation began on May 10, 2026. The project team for Section 6 applied construction methods and technical solutions that took into account the characteristics of the weak host rock.
Proactive geological forecasting and continuous monitoring of the rock mass were conducted. This allowed for real-time assessment of changes in geological conditions and, if necessary, prompt adjustments to the work process.
Particular attention was paid to preventing loss of rock mass stability, water inflows, and collapses. The sequence of technological operations was also optimized, and site monitoring was strengthened.
Thus, the tunnel excavation was completed in 87 days, on time and in compliance with safety requirements.
