Bishkek, Nov. 19, 2025 /Kabar/. Minister of Natural Resources, Environment, and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic Meder Mashiev is participating in the 30th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC.
According to the ministry, the conference is taking place in Belém, Brazil, with approximately 50,000 delegates from 190 countries participating. On November 17, the minister participated in the opening of the COP30 high-level segment.
UNFCCC Executive Secretary Simon Still called on countries not to delay key decisions and block the negotiating process.
On the same day, consultations on mountains and climate change were held under the leadership of the COP30 Presidency, which resulted in a decision to hold an expert dialogue on mountains and climate change in Bonn in June 2026.
Meder Mashiev made a statement at the COP30 high-level segment on November 18. In his statement, the minister noted that Kyrgyzstan is a low-emissions country with high climate vulnerability. Due to climate change, the country is losing glaciers, facing pasture degradation, biodiversity loss, and increase in natural disasters.
The minister also noted that updated NDC 3.0 was presented this year, including more ambitious targets for emission reduction, renewable energy development, energy efficiency, and adaptation of mountain ecosystems and communities.
"Kyrgyzstan is promoting the creation of the Global Mountain Resilience Center in Bishkek, an international platform for science, early warning, data sharing, adaptation technologies, and training for mountain countries," he said.
