Bishkek, Jan. 19, 2026. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan plans large-scale renovation of film production infrastructure, including the construction of its first film and modern recording studio. Deputy Minister of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy Marat Tagaev announced at Zhogorku Kenesh.

According to him, the Department of Cinematography has set ambitious goals for 2026. The film studio construction project has already been included in the project list, and work on its implementation is beginning in collaboration with the Ministry of Construction.

Marat Tagaev noted that currently, domestic filmmakers are forced to travel abroad for high-quality film dubbing, spending between $15,000 and $20,000 on this.

"In 2026, we plan to open a Dolby Atmos recording studio in Kyrgyzstan, which will allow us to conduct the entire post-production cycle within the country," the Deputy Minister emphasized.

The significant increase in state support for the industry was also noted during the speech. While less than 100 million soms were allocated for film development before 2020, funding reached 1 billion soms in 2025-2026. Thus, the film production budget has increased tenfold in five years.

Along with the increased funding, content quality requirements are becoming more stringent. Ministry of Culture has conducted analysis of how well the films being released meet audience demand and their export potential for entering foreign markets.

To optimize processes, one-stop shop system is being implemented; scripts will be reviewed by the artistic councils of the Kyrgyzfilm and Kyrgyzserials. The final decision on the feasibility of filming will be made by the artistic expert council of the Department of Cinematography.
