Bishkek, July 1, 2026 /Kabar/. The opening ceremony of the first Central and North Asian Chess Championship among boys and girls was held today in Korumdu village, Issyk-Kul region.
According to the State Agency for Physical Culture and Sports, more than 500 young chess players aged 8 to 20 from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan are participating in the championship.
Urmat Asanbaev, Director of the State Agency for Physical Culture and Sports, attended the event. In his speech, he noted that the championship, which brings together the strongest chess players from Central and Northern Asia, is an important platform for exchanging experiences and improving the skills of young athletes. He wished all participants success, interesting games, and worthy victories.
The participants include International Masters (IM), FIDE Masters (FM), and Women's FIDE Masters (WFM), as well as more than 25 winners and runners-up of the World, Asian, West Asian, and Central Asian Championships.
The competition will run until July 9.
