Bishkek, July 13, 2026. /Kabar/. A pilot project to grow forage corn has begun in the Chon-Alai district of Osh region. The German-bred hybrid KBC KASHMIR FAO 390 was planted for the first time on a 3.5-hectare area, the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry reported.
The project aims to strengthen the livestock feed base and explore the possibility of growing new forage crops in the natural and climatic conditions of the high-mountain region.
As part of the experiment, specialists will evaluate corn growth characteristics, its yield, and forage quality. The results will be used to develop recommendations for local farmers on crop cultivation.
According to the ministry, corn is considered one of the most valuable forage crops due to the high nutritional value of its green mass and the potential for silage production. In recent years, Kyrgyzstan has placed particular emphasis on expanding the area under forage crops.
The experimental crops are located in the upper, middle, and lower zones of the Chon-Alai district. Their condition is being monitored weekly by agronomists, who conduct ongoing monitoring.
The ministry noted that the project will improve the supply of high-quality feed for livestock, increase feed production volumes, and enhance the efficiency of agricultural production. The ministry also called on farmers to more actively implement modern technologies and innovative agricultural methods.
