Bishkek, Feb. 25, 2026. /Kabar/. Between 2000 and 2020, the incidence of hepatitis B among children decreased by approximately 145 times in Kyrgyzstan, Ministry of Health reports.

The ministry attributes the success of the prevention policy to the introduction of hepatitis B vaccination into the national immunization schedule in 2002. Currently, newborn immunization is fully funded by the national budget, and vaccination of children under one year is carried out with the support of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI).

Since 2022, the prevention program has been expanded to include adults. As part of a pilot project implemented with the support of Rospotrebnadzor, Kyrgyzstan received 350,000 doses of the vaccine and 140,000 rapid tests. The program began in Chui region and Bishkek and was later expanded to other regions.

According to the Ministry of Health, as of February 1, 2026:

323,638 people received one dose;

271,182 people (83.8%) received two doses;

195,092 people (73.6%) received three doses.

The ministry notes that this has significantly increased the level of herd immunity among the adult population.
