Infant mortality decreases by 4.2% in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Jan. 29, 2026 /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan has recorded a decline in infant mortality in 2025, Health Minister Kanybek Dosmambetov told at ministry board meeting.

According to him, the infant mortality rate was 13.5 cases per 1,000 live births, a 4.2% decrease compared to the previous year.

At the same time, he noted, the cause of infant mortality remains unchanged. Perinatal diseases remain the leading cause, accounting for 65.7% of all cases, or 1,224 children. Congenital malformations rank second, accounting for 15.5% (289 children), and respiratory diseases rank third, accounting for 8.2% (152 children).

At the same time, as Dosmambetov pointed out, in 2025, an increase in infant mortality due to infectious and parasitic diseases was recorded – by 28.1%.
