Bishkek, March 18, 2026. /Kabar/. The introduction of reverse vending machines with a bonus system for collecting PET bottles and aluminum containers was discussed in Bishkek. This was announced during the "Green Entrepreneur" roundtable, where businesses and the government discussed joint efforts to combat plastic pollution.
According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, retail chains, markets, gas stations, food courts, and educational institutions have been proposed as priority locations. This will help foster the habit of separate waste collection among the population.
At the same time, special attention was paid to preparations for the entry into force of the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic "On limiting the circulation of polymer film bags and plastic products."
According to the ministry, a complete ban on the production, sale, and distribution of plastic bags and products specified in the law (with the exception of products for export and biodegradable bags without handles) will be introduced nationwide starting January 1, 2027.
"Plastic pollution is a global challenge, but thanks to innovation and our partnership, Kyrgyzstan can become a leader in Central Asia in implementing environmental solutions," said Deputy Minister Zhenish Seidaliev.
Furthermore, the ministry plans to create a state brand called "Green Entrepreneur" and improve its ESG rating among entrepreneurs, which will highlight companies that already demonstrate high environmental responsibility and are implementing circular economy principles.
The roundtable concluded with a decision to implement joint pilot projects. The parties confirmed their commitment to long-term cooperation to achieve the ambitious goal of minimizing the plastic footprint and transitioning to a zero-pollution model in Kyrgyzstan.
The discussion was attended by First Deputy Minister Zhenish Seidaliev, leading domestic market players and major retailers: Shoro LLC, Coca-Cola Bishkek Bottlers LLC, Asia Retail LLC, Umai Group LLC, Partner Neft LLC, as well as leading polymer processing companies.
