Bishkek, Feb. 19, 2025. /Kabar/. The article of Kabar News Agency’s journalist Nurzhan Kasmalieva took the third place in the Best Article Award 2024 at the Organisation of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA).
The article about Shyrdak (national carpet of Kyrgyz people) won in the category cultural heritage.
The OANA declared the contest on Best Article Award and the Best Photo Award in August 2024 and the results of the contest were announced at the 54th Executive Board Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on February 17 by OANA Secretary General Zaman Rezakhani.
The contest was held to promote competence, excellence and innovation among OANA journalists.
A total of 30 articles, 22 individual photos, and 14 photo series from 17 news agencies were submitted for the competition.

An award ceremony will be held in a formal setting during the 19th OANA General Assembly, which is scheduled for June in St. Petersburg, Russia.
OANA is a non-profit membership association of news agencies from the UN member states in the Asia-Pacific region. It was founded in Bangkok, Thailand on December 22, 1961 at the First General Assembly of Asian news agencies on the initiative of UNESCO. Organization was formed to secure direct and free exchange of news between the news agencies of a region inhabited by more than one half of the world's population.
At present OANA brings together 41 news agencies from 33 countries.
OANA members are responsible for two-thirds of information circulated throughout the world.
Kabar is the member of OANA since 1997.

In 2023, Nurzhan Kasmalieva became the finalist of the Silk Road Global News Awards 2023 In-depth Reporting category organized by the Belt and Road News Network (BRNN).
