Bishkek, Sept. 21, 2026 /Kabar/. A media forum dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) opened in Moscow today.
More than 70 representatives from 30 countries are participating in the event. Kyrgyzstan is represented at the forum by Mederbek Shermetaliev, Director of the Kyrgyz National Kabar News Agency.
The forum program began with the opening of the OANA photo exhibition titled "History and Development: 65 Years of Information Exchange in the Asia-Pacific Region."
This will be followed by a plenary session on the topic "OANA: 65 Years of Experience—Building a Sustainable Media Community and the Organization's Role in Shaping the Region's Future Information Landscape." Participants will include senior executives from TASS, Russian government officials, and heads of foreign news agencies.
Three panel sessions will also take place as part of the media forum. Participants will discuss modern approaches to countering the spread of disinformation and fake news, the methodology and ethics of using artificial intelligence in the media, and strategies for maintaining professional standards and improving the quality of information content.
The media forum will conclude with an awards ceremony for the winners of the OANA Awards.
OANA (Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies) was established in 1961 on the initiative of UNESCO. The organization's primary goal is to facilitate the direct and free exchange of news among news agencies in the Asia-Pacific region, home to more than half of the world's population.
