Bishkek, March 26, 2026. /Kabar/. Modern wastewater treatment plant, supported by the Asian Development Bank, is scheduled to open in Karakol in August 2026. Press service of the Karakol mayor's office informs.

The project aims to improve the environmental situation, enhance the quality of urban infrastructure, and create a safe environment for residents.

Construction is being implemented in two phases. In the first phase, the plant's capacity will be 12,000 cubic meters per day, serving approximately 75,000 people. The second phase, scheduled for 2027, will increase capacity to 24,000 cubic meters, allowing it to serve up to 150,000 residents when fully connected to the sewer network.

As of today, the main construction work has been completed: key facilities have been erected, including aeration tanks, settling basins, and technical structures, as well as an administrative building with a laboratory. Completion of utility lines and landscaping is planned for the near future. Commissioning is scheduled for May.

It is noted that only 35-40% of the city's facilities are currently connected to the centralized sewer system. Following the project's completion, the municipal enterprise Gorvodokanal will begin connecting residents in stages.

Furthermore, 12.7 kilometers of sewer lines have already been expanded in the city, which will allow new neighborhoods to be connected to the modern treatment system.
