Bishkek, Dec. 19, 2025. /Kabar/. In his interview with television channels dedicated to the results of the outgoing year and plans for the future, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Head of the Presidential Administration Adylbek Kasymaliev shared important information about the current energy situation in the country, measures to eliminate the deficit, and new projects.

According to him, Kyrgyzstan's current electricity demand exceeds production: annual consumption is 18.9 billion kWh. We produce 14 billion kWh ourselves, and we purchase the remaining 4.3 billion kWh from abroad," he noted.

Kasymaliev emphasized that the country's hydroelectric potential is not being fully utilized.

"Kyrgyzstan is using only 10% of its hydroelectric potential. Construction of small, medium, and large hydroelectric power plants is currently underway." More than 10 small hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) have been commissioned this year.

Kambar-Ata-1 HPP is a key strategic project. It is regional significance and plays key role in providing neighboring countries with irrigation water. Particular attention is being paid to the development of renewable energy sources. More than 10 agreements have been signed for the construction of solar power plants with a total capacity of over 5,000 MW.

First 120 MW solar power plant will soon open in the Kemin region. Through the construction of HPPs and the development of solar energy, we plan to achieve energy independence in coming years," he said.
