Bishkek, Oct. 21, 2025 /Kabar/. Today, October 21, Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu received the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkiye to Kyrgyzstan, Mekin Mustafa Kemal Okem, the parliament's press service reported.

The parties discussed key issues of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Turkiye.

The speaker congratulated the ambassador on the beginning of his diplomatic mission in Kyrgyzstan. "In recent years, relations between our two fraternal states have been steadily developing, with cooperation intensifying across all areas. I am confident that you, as an experienced and professional diplomat, will contribute to strengthening friendly ties and taking the existing partnership to a new level," he noted.

Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu emphasized that the close relationship between the two leaders provides a significant impetus for the development of cooperation. The speaker added that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's state visit to Kyrgyzstan last year was fruitful and opened a new chapter in Kyrgyz-Turkish cooperation.

"Important agreements were signed during this visit, and now we need to develop the existing strategic partnership through the successful implementation of these documents," he said.

Turgunbek uulu also discussed the current state of interparliamentary relations and recalled that after his election as Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, he made his first official visit to the Republic of Turkiye.

"We are interested in close cooperation with the Turkish Grand National Assembly. This year, its Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş paid an official visit to Kyrgyzstan, where we held important talks aimed at developing interparliamentary ties. The role of parliamentary diplomacy is crucial; only when elected representatives work together can interstate agreements be successfully implemented," the speaker added.

Mekin Mustafa Kemal Ökem, in turn, noted that his last 30 years of work have been closely connected with Kyrgyzstan. He reported that he was directly involved in the opening of the first office of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) in Bishkek.

"The Kyrgyz land and the brotherly Kyrgyz people are very close to me. Therefore, in my work as ambassador, I will pay special attention to the development of Kyrgyz-Turkish cooperation and am ready to make every effort to strengthen fraternal and friendly relations. Developing interparliamentary ties is also a priority for my diplomatic work," he said.
