Bishkek, Aug 31, 2026. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan aims to increase trade turnover with China to $40 billion in the next 2-4 years. Today, the trade turnover of the two countries has reached $29 billion. Sheradil Baktygulov, Director of the Institute of world politics told the Ala-Too 24 channel.
According to him, previously the trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and China was around $17 billion.
“The goal set today is to increase trade turnover to $40 billion in 2-4 years. This is a very important and ambitious goal,” Baktygulov said.
The expert noted that the growth of trade turnover is not just a statistical indicator. Behind it are funds received by the budget, income of entrepreneurs, as well as the construction of new schools, roads, hospitals and other social facilities.
According to Baktygulov, China is a key partner for Kyrgyzstan in terms of trade and investment. At the same time, he noted that China is one of the leading countries in the world economy.
“The funds coming to our country from China are mainly direct investments. We need to develop the economy for the well-being of our people. Therefore, China is our first partner in terms of trade and investment,” the expert said.
He also noted that Kyrgyzstan is of particular importance to Chinese President Xi Jinping.
“Kyrgyzstan is in a special place for Chinese President Xi Jinping. In 2013, the year Chinese President Xi Jinping first visited Kyrgyzstan, he was appointed chairman of China. That year, Kyrgyzstan was the first to visit the countries of the former Soviet Union, while participating in the SCO summit,” he said.
The expert also touched upon the coincidence of the SCO summit and Xi Jinping's state visit on August 31.
“The SCO summits are usually held in June. After all, the SCO itself was founded on June 15. However, the date of the summit may be changed due to important anniversaries at the state level. Therefore, this time the SCO summit and the state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping were specially organized for August 31,” Baktygulov said.
He noted that this day is of particular importance for Kyrgyzstan. After all, August 31 is Kyrgyzstan's Independence Day. He added that the arrival of high-ranking guests to the country on such an important day demonstrates the international prestige of Kyrgyzstan and the importance of interstate relations.
