Kyrgyzstan and Rosatom discuss reclamation of uranium sites

Bishkek, April 8, 2026 /Kabar/. On April 7, Minister of Emergency Situations Kanatbek Chynybaev received delegation from the Rosatom State Corporation, led by Deputy Director General and Director of International Activities Nikolai Spassky.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the current status of reclamation work at former uranium legacy sites in Kyrgyzstan and to explore priority areas for further cooperation.

During the meeting, representatives of the Rosatom State Corporation noted significant progress in project implementation and the successful completion in 2025 of the Interstate Target Program "Reclamation of territories of states impacted by uranium mining production."

Special attention was paid to the further development of bilateral cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian Federation. The Kyrgyz side emphasized the high effectiveness of joint efforts and their strategic importance for ensuring the country's environmental and radiation safety.

In turn, the head of the Ministry expressed gratitude to the Rosatom State Corporation for its support, noting the long-standing and fruitful nature of their collaboration in improving radiation safety.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness to further strengthen and expand their cooperation.
