Bishkek, June 15, 2026 /Kabar/. The commissioning ceremony for the first stage of the largest solar power plant in Central Asia, ROX Issyk-Kul, took place in the village of Kyzyl-Oruk in Issyk-Kul region, with the participation of President Sadyr Zhaparov.

With an installed capacity of 1900 MW, it will be the second largest after the Toktogul Hydro Power Plant. The plant is capable of generating up to 3.3 billion kWh of clean energy annually, which will help cover the country's growing electricity deficit (estimated at 4.2 billion kWh in 2025).

2,187.9 hectares of land have been allocated for the project, and the total investment is USD 1.4 billion.

During the first phase, a 175 MW peak solar power plant, a 110 kV high-voltage substation, and associated transmission infrastructure were commissioned. Investment in the initial phase amounted to USD 130 million.

After reaching its design capacity, the first complex is expected to generate approximately 192 million kWh of green energy annually, making a significant contribution to covering the country's energy deficit.

The project is being implemented, financed, and managed by the Vietnamese company RECA LLC — ROX ENERGY GLOBAL.

The main goal is to diversify energy resources, promote sustainable economic development, and ensure energy security for Kyrgyzstan.

The construction of the power plant has begun in July 2025 and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028.
