Bishkek, July 16, 2026. /Kabar/. In Kyrgyzstan, as part of state policy, work is being carried out to limit the circulation of polymer films in order to reduce plastic waste and protect the environment.
According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision, according to experts, plastic waste does not decompose in nature for 400 to 700 years, while ordinary plastic bags do not decompose for 100 to 200 years.
"They enter the human body in the form of micro- and nano-particles through food, water and air, posing a serious health hazard," the report says.
As noted in the report, starting in 2023, restrictions have been introduced on the use of certain plastic products and polymer bags in the Issyk-Kul region and in specially protected natural areas of the country. Now, starting in 2027, the production, sale and free distribution of bags and plastic products made of polymer film will be completely banned throughout the country.
The ministry is conducting ongoing information and explanatory work in order to prepare domestic businesses, manufacturers and importers for the timely transition to environmentally friendly, biodegradable alternative bags and products.
