Bishkek, July 16, 2026. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan's first-ever nomination for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council required serious diplomatic efforts from Bishkek.

As Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev stated in Kabar podcast, the key task was to convince international partners of the republic's reliability and credibility.

According to Kulubaev, the country had to prove its ability to fulfill large-scale tasks but also to effectively advance the global agenda.

"Ultimately, our candidacy received strong support from the Global South: African and Asian states, the Caribbean island nations, Latin America, and, of course, our CIS partners. In putting forward our candidacy, we positioned Kyrgyzstan not simply as an individual state, but as a representative of the interests of the entire Central Asian region," noted Jeenbek Kulubaev.

Furthermore, the minister stated that the campaign required long-term planning: preliminary work had been underway since 2022, and in 2024, the country entered a phase of intensified preparation. According to him, Kyrgyzstan regularly reminded UN member states, at the level of the president, prime minister, ministers, and ambassadors, about its candidacy for non-permanent membership of the Security Council.
