Bishkek, Feb. 27, 2025. /Kabar/. Negotiations on delimitation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border were resolved bilaterally, head of the State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashievtold today in the Parliament.

He said that negotiations on delimitation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border were started in December 2002. During the negotiations, 45 protocols were signed by government commissions of the two countries, 86 by topographic groups, and 25 protocols were signed by legal groups. The total length of the border between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan is 1006.84 km. Of these, 519.9 km were specified and signed before 2011. The remaining 486.94 km have been specified over the past three years.

"From the very beginning of the negotiations, the Tajik side adhered to the documents that were signed in 1924-1927. The Kyrgyz side proposed to take as a basis the treaty on the establishment of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which was signed on December 8, 1991, the Almaty Declaration of December 21, 1991 and the Moscow Declaration on the integrity of the CIS. That is, the two states proposed to negotiate on borders using two different documents. Because of this, the parties could not come to a mutual agreement for more than ten years. During all these years, not a single meter of the state border section was defined," he said.

Tashiev noted that since 2021, government commissions of the two countries began negotiations and were able to achieve results. "We were able to agree that we will conduct a delimitation of state borders based on the documents of 1991 and on our current borders. The decisions taken are mutual and bilateral. The state border is never decided unilaterally. Both sides must be satisfied," Tashiev said.
