Bishkek, Jan. 29, 2026. /Kabar/. Nipah virus registered in India poses no threat to Kyrgyzstan today. This was stated by Dinara Otorbaeva, Head of the department of disease prevention and state sanitary and epidemiological surveillance, told Birinchi Radio.

According to her, despite the fact that disease prevention measures have been strengthened in the country, there is no reason for concern.

“Nipah virus has been registered in India, and 5 people are reported to have been infected. 100 people who came into contact with these 5 people are currently under observation. We do not have the type of bat known as the “flying fox” that transmits this disease. However, due to the current increase in migration and the large number of tourists traveling here and there, we have strengthened preventive measures. Control points have been instructed, and the body temperature and symptoms of those arriving in the country are being checked,” said Otorbaeva.

In fact, the Nipah virus was first registered in Malaysia 26 years ago in 1999, where about 100 people were infected, the doctor noted. As reported, since then, the disease has been re-registered 12 times. Now the World Health Organization calls this disease a seasonal local disease.
