Bishkek, July 15, 2026. /Kabar/. Bishkek Mayor Aibek Dzhunushaliev inspected the progress of water supply improvements at the Orto-Alysh water intake yesterday.
According to the city hall, 12 feeder lakes are currently operating within the water intake area. This year, the twelfth recharge lake, the largest on the site, was built using Bishkekvodokanal's own funds. Its commissioning is scheduled for next month.
The agency emphasizes that the creation of the new recharge lake will increase the artificial replenishment of underground water reserves, improve the efficiency of the Orto-Alysh water intake, and ensure more reliable operation of the capital's drinking water system.
"Temperatures are expected to rise. We must ensure an uninterrupted water supply to city residents. The measures taken are already yielding positive results, but the city's water demand is growing annually," emphasized Aibek Dzhunushaliev.
It is noted that the Orto-Alysh water intake provides drinking water to over 40% of Bishkek's residents, making its stable operation of strategic importance.
According to Bishkekvodokanal, all recharge lakes are currently full of water, and there is no water shortage.
