Bishkek, June 22, 2026. /Kabar/. The Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan, Jamilya Zhamanbaeva, and the Commissioner for Human Rights of Tajikistan, Umed Bobozoda, signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of human rights protection.
According to the Institute of the Ombudsman, this is the first agreement between the national human rights institutions of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, aimed at developing cooperation in protecting the rights and freedoms of citizens of the two countries.
The parties will promptly inform each other of identified cases of human rights violations in their respective territories, consider relevant appeals, and facilitate the restoration of violated rights within the scope of their respective powers.
Furthermore, the ombudsmen intend to hold joint meetings with citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, organize monitoring visits, and provide legal consultations.
According to Jamilya Dzhamanbaeva, the signed memorandum should not be a formal document, but effective mechanism for the protection of human rights.
"From now on, we have official legal basis for the prompt consideration of appeals from Kyrgyz citizens in Tajikistan and Tajik citizens in Kyrgyzstan," she noted.
In turn, Umed Bobozoda emphasized the centuries-old good-neighborliness and close ties between the two countries, expressing confidence that cooperation will contribute to the protection of the interests of the citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
It is noted that the first consultative meeting of the national bodies of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states on human rights will be held in Bishkek on June 23. The event will be attended by heads and representatives of human rights institutions and government agencies from Belarus, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
