Bishkek, June 5, 2026 /Kabar/. President Sadyr Zhaparov received the ministers of internal affairs and public security of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states.

According to the presidential administration, during the meeting, the participants exchanged views on pressing contemporary challenges, including those related to the rapid development of digital technologies. The parties emphasized the importance of strengthening information security and jointly countering cyber threats.

The head of state emphasized that the meeting is taking place at significant time – the year of the 25th anniversary of the Organization and Kyrgyzstan's chairmanship, held under the motto "25 Years of the SCO: Together Towards Sustainable Peace, Development, and Prosperity."

In this context, Sadyr Zhaparov emphasized that, amidst the profound transformation of the international system and the crisis of global stability, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization maintains its resilience and serves as a reliable mechanism for strengthening trust and security.

Speaking about contemporary challenges, he noted that the criminal world is actively mastering artificial intelligence, automating cyberattacks, exploiting disinformation, and creating new channels for illicit financial flows. The head of state emphasized that, for this reason, practical steps to strengthen the SCO's institutional framework are of particular importance.

Among the important measures being taken, he outlined the creation of a Universal Center for Countering Security Threats within the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure, which will combine the Center for Combating Transnational Organized Crime in Bishkek and the Information Security Center in Tashkent.

The president emphasized that Kyrgyzstan's position remains unchanged: security in SCO region must be proactive – capable of predicting and preventing threats before they cause harm.

In turn, SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbaev expressed gratitude to the head of state for his personal attention to cooperation within the Organization, including strengthening security.

He also congratulated Sadyr Zhaparov and the people of Kyrgyzstan on their election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027–2028, emphasizing that this achievement is convincing evidence of Kyrgyzstan's high international standing and recognition of its contribution to strengthening peace and security.

Secretary-General also highlighted Kyrgyzstan's active and productive chairmanship of the SCO. In addition to the important initiatives being put forward and preparations for the Summit, meetings of relevant mechanisms are also underway. He noted that today's meeting of Ministers of Internal Affairs and Public Security resumed its work in 2022 at the initiative of Kyrgyz side.
