Tajikistan has officially joined the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as its 88th member state. The announcement was made during the International High-Level Conference on Glacier Preservation currently taking place in Dushanbe, Khovar reported.

The country’s accession reflects international recognition of Tajikistan’s ongoing efforts to protect the environment, particularly in the fields of glacier conservation and water security.

In accordance with a resolution of the Government of Tajikistan, the Committee for Environmental Protection has been designated as the national coordinating body for cooperation with the IUCN.

Membership in the IUCN will provide Tajikistan with access to global environmental initiatives, scientific expertise, and funding opportunities. It will also support the implementation of the IUCN Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas, a global standard for effective and equitable nature conservation.

Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection, Bahodur Sheralizoda, reaffirmed Tajikistan’s commitment to addressing environmental challenges.

IUCN Director General Dr. Grethel Aguilar welcomed Tajikistan’s membership, emphasizing the country’s valuable role in advancing global nature conservation efforts.
