Traffic at Vasil Levski Sofia Airport is growing at a rate three times higher than the European average for the 2019-2026 period, said Jesus Caballero, CEO of the airport operator SOF Connect, during the Green Transition Forum, hosted by Sofia Event Center on Monday. The forum is organized by Dir.bg with BTA among its media partners.

Caballero presented data showing that traffic at Vasil Levski Airport has increased by 24.5% for the 2019-2026 period, which is three times the average growth rate for Europe. He emphasized that the airport has the lowest airport fees not only in the region but also among all capital city airports in Europe, which helps ensure high competitiveness.

Caballero said that the high growth rate was achieved despite the war in Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East, which have diverted some of the airport's traffic. He added that despite the rapid growth, the airport has managed to reduce harmful emissions by 73% over the period and aims to become carbon neutral by 2038.

Caballero stated that following the construction of the new Terminal 3, the airport will have a capacity of over 20 million passengers per year.
