Bishkek, Oct. 20, 2026 /Kabar/. The opening of the Zangezur Corridor could contribute to the development of the global economy, the creation of new jobs, and the strengthening of peace in the region. Asaf Hajiyev, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) told at the 15th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TurkPA) in Bishkek.
According to him, the importance of the Black Sea region in international trade and transport communications continues to grow. It serves as a conduit for vital routes connecting East and West including those between China and Europe as well as the North-South transport corridor.
Hajiyev noted that the region holds strategic significance for the supply of non-ferrous metals, gas, and oil from Central Asian countries and other states to global and European markets.
"For this region to play a major role in the global economy, it is essential to open transport corridors, most notably the corridor through Zangezur," he emphasized.
The PABSEC Secretary General noted that the Zangezur Corridor spans approximately 40 kilometers. Its opening is expected to expand transport capacity and streamline the delivery of raw materials and other goods from Central Asia to Europe. Hajiyev emphasized that the issue of opening the corridor concerns not only Azerbaijan and Armenia but also other countries in the region, and carries broader international significance.
"The opening of this corridor will provide a boost not only to the region but also to the global economy; it will help create new jobs, strengthen relations between peoples, and establish peace in the region," he stated, calling on countries to support this initiative.
Addressing economic prospects, Hajiyev also drew attention to changes driven by technological development and artificial intelligence. He noted that the economic, political, and social aspects of regional cooperation were discussed during meetings of the relevant committees.
In concluding his remarks, he underscored the importance of fostering cooperation among Turkic-speaking nations, preserving their cultural values, and bringing together diverse cultures and languages.
