Bishkek, May 19, 2026. /Kabar/. More than $19.5 million will be allocated to develop the research infrastructure of five state universities with special status in Kyrgyzstan. This was reported by the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Innovations.
According to the information, tripartite sub-credit agreements were signed between the Ministry of Science, the Ministry of Finance and five universities within the framework of the "Quality and Innovation in Higher Education" (QIHE) project. This investment in the form of a budget loan is provided with the support of the World Bank.
The allocated funds will be used to purchase modern equipment, develop laboratory and digital infrastructure, as well as create Research and Innovation Centers (RICs) at universities.
The funds were distributed among the universities as follows:
- KMA (Medical Academy) – $4 million 325 thousand (biomedical research and laboratory diagnostics);
- KAU (Agrarian University) – $4 million 200 thousand (food and biological safety);
- Osh State University – $4 million (prevention and diagnostics of oncological diseases);
- KNPU (Polytechnic University) – $3 million 826.9 thousand (artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and IT);
- KNU (National University) – $3 million 200 thousand (water, chemical and environmental safety).
As noted by the Minister of Science Gulzat Isamatova, this is the first time in the history of the country's independence that such a large-scale direct investment is being made in the scientific infrastructure of universities. The minister added that funds should be used in a targeted and transparent manner.
