Bishkek, June 3, 2026 /Kabar/. Large-scale modernization project is underway at the Uch-Kurgan Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP).
According to the energy ministry, construction and installation work is currently ongoing at the site, carried out by the general contractor, the Chinese company CNEEC. 112 specialists are involved in the project.
At Hydroelectric Unit No. 1, stator and rotor assembly, installation of service water supply and control system pipelines, and installation of impulse pipes in the volute and draft tube are ongoing. Overall modernization work on Hydroelectric Unit No. 1 is 38% complete.
At Hydroelectric Unit No. 2, work is underway to install service water supply and control system pipelines, and anti-corrosion treatment of volute components is being performed. Overall modernization work on Hydroelectric Unit No. 2 is 44% complete.
Control cable installation is also ongoing at Transformer No. 1. Drilling of boreholes with parallel grouting and drilling of drainage boreholes is underway at the station's dam. At the upstream section (elevation 542.0 m), the lifting mechanism for the emergency repair gate of Hydroelectric Unit No. 2 is being installed. Downstream, the beams of the openings of Repair Gates No. 1 and No. 2 are being reinforced.
Logistics support for the project is also being provided: dismantled equipment is being transported to storage areas and new equipment is being delivered to the station site for subsequent installation.
The following key work completion statuses are as follows:
- Replacement of transformer No. 1 — 88%;
- Work on the station dam — 72.1%;
- Installation of hydromechanical equipment in the upstream section — 31.2%;
- Strengthening downstream structures — 32.4%;
- Installation of Hydroelectric Unit No. 2 — 24.3%;
- Installation of Hydroelectric Unit No. 1 — 17.6%;
- Assembly of Hydroelectric Unit No. 1 rotor — 6.5%;
- Assembly of Hydroelectric Unit No. 1 stator — 11.1%.
