Bishkek, Dec. 18, 2025 /Kabar/. Price reduction is not the direct responsibility of the Antimonopoly Regulation Service. The agency's primary objective is to protect competition and create conditions for its development, head of the agency, Zheenaly Orozbaev told Kabar.

According to him, despite the fact that the Antimonopoly Regulation Service has a very small staff, it performs a number of important functions, including:

  • protecting consumer rights;
  • protecting competition;
  • combatting unfair competition;
  • anti-monopolization;
  • working with monopolists;
  • working with dominant entities.

"We must not allow large companies from other countries to come and destroy all small businesses in Kyrgyzstan. In today's conditions, this can happen literally in a single day. That's why our service is called the antimonopoly service. For example, in 2021, state price controls on vegetable oil and sugar were introduced for 90 days. If we hadn't taken these measures, the population would have lost 1.2 billion soms, as we calculated. Liter of oil began selling for 180 soms, while previously it cost around 110 soms. The price of sugar reached 105 soms, but now it costs 75 soms", he noted.
