Bishkek discusses modernizing city's transportation system

Bishkek, July 17, 2026 /Kabar/. On July 15, Deputy Mayor Ramiz Aliev and French Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Nicolas Faye held a meeting at Bishkek City Hall.

During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for the development of the capital's transport infrastructure, including the implementation of public transport projects, as well as issues outlined in the Bishkek City Development Master Plan to 2050.

Particular attention was paid to the development of modern public transport, including the prospects for metro construction, the development of a tram network, the introduction of electric buses, and other modern transport solutions aimed at improving urban mobility and reducing environmental impacts.

Ramiz Aliev noted that improving the transport system is one of the mayor's office's priorities. The city's Development Master Plan to 2050 envisages the comprehensive modernization of transport infrastructure, the creation of a comfortable and safe urban environment, and the development of environmentally friendly public transport.

The French side expressed interest in further developing cooperation with Bishkek in the transport sector, including by leveraging the experience of French companies implementing large-scale infrastructure projects in urban and rail transport.

The meeting also discussed prospects for cooperation with the French company Alstom, a global leader in rail transport and sustainable urban mobility solutions. The company has significant international experience in implementing projects to build and modernize tram systems, railway infrastructure, and intelligent transportation solutions.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in further developing cooperation and expressed their willingness to continue a constructive dialogue on modernizing Bishkek's transportation system.
