Bishkek, May 27, 2026 /Kabar/. The Kyrgyz-Chinese media forum "Developing Cooperation between the Media Communities of Kyrgyzstan and China for Deepening Integration of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)" was held in Bishkek today.

As part of the forum, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Kyrgyz Tuusu Information and Publishing House and the Chinese newspaper "Renmin Ribao," as well as a cooperation agreement between the national Slovo Kyrgyzstana newspaper and the Chinese newspaper "Huanqiu Shibao" (Global Times).

Speaking at the forum, Galina Baiterek, General Director of the Kyrgyz Tuusu Information and Publishing House, noted that today the world is experiencing significant geopolitical, economic, and technological changes. In these circumstances, not only politics and economics, but also media—as a space for trust, responsibility, and dialogue—are beginning to play a special role.

According to her, Kyrgyzstan and China are linked by the centuries-old history of the Great Silk Road, good neighborliness, and a commitment to sustainable development and peace in the region. This is why cooperation in the information sphere is particularly important today.

"Modern media are no longer just a source of news, but an important bridge between states and societies. The level of mutual trust between our peoples depends on the objectivity of journalism, the quality of analysis, and the openness of humanitarian exchanges. “It is especially important that the media communities of Kyrgyzstan and China work together to counter the spread of disinformation and information confrontation, and to foster an atmosphere of respect, open dialogue, and mutual cultural understanding,” she said.

Galina Baiterek emphasized that she sees great prospects for cooperation in various areas:

exchanging experiences between journalists and experts;

  • creating joint media projects;
  • developing digital platforms and new media;
  • supporting young journalists;
  • strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties;
  • promoting an objective image of the SCO countries in the international information space.

“At the same time, we strive to develop cooperation not only with Chinese media, but also with other international media organizations, in order to strengthen friendship, mutual understanding, and partnership between peoples. "Today, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is becoming not only a space for security and economic cooperation, but also an important platform for dialogue among civilizations, mutual respect, and equal partnership," she noted.

Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the People's Daily, Cui Shixin, said that the content of Chinese-Kyrgyz relations in the new era is constantly enriching and deepening. For the media of both countries, this means the need to demonstrate responsibility and a sense of duty, to develop the spirit of the Silk Road—peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit—and to unite the shared values and aspirations of the peoples of both countries for a better life. In this regard, he presented several ideas for consideration.

"First, strengthen consensus on development by creating an anchor of trust." In an era of information complexity and diversity, the media must faithfully fulfill their duty as "guardians of truth and core values." Through regular exchanges and joint reporting, we must build bridges of understanding, presenting a true, multidimensional, and comprehensive picture of China-Kyrgyzstan cooperation.

Second, we must promote mutually beneficial cooperation, paving the way for prosperity. Media outlets in both countries must resolutely and practically utilize their professional and authoritative potential to clarify complex issues and guide audiences, and sincerely and convincingly tell vivid stories of mutually beneficial cooperation, so that the peoples of both countries deeply understand that such cooperation is a necessity that serves the fundamental interests of both sides.

Third, we must deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, cultivating the tree of friendship. We must actively create platforms to promote exchanges in culture and the arts, as well as among young people, to bridge the gap between peoples' hearts and ensure that the tree of China-Kyrgyzstan friendship is lush and evergreen.

Fourth, strengthen the institutional foundation by amplifying the voice of the SCO. We must innovate discursive and narrative systems, enrich diverse intercultural exchanges, and showcase to the world the unique charm of exchanges and the intertwining of civilizations within the great SCO family," he said.
