Bishkek, Jan. 20, 2026. /Kabar/. One of Bishkek's main achievements in 2025 was the resolution of long-standing waste disposal problem. Mayor Aibek Dzhunushaliev announced this in a podcast broadcast by the Kabar news agency.
According to the mayor, the construction of a waste recycling plant had been unresolved for years, despite numerous decrees. Previous attempts were accompanied by criminal cases and the arrests of officials.
The mayor recalled the unsuccessful experience of previous years, when the allocated 22 million euros were used ineffectively. "This time, Bishkek didn't spend a single som of the budget on construction. We attracted an investor who invested $95 million and built the plant," Dzhunushaliev emphasized.
To date, the plant has already recycled 49,000 tons of waste.
The mayor also spoke about plans to reclaim the old landfill. During the plant's opening, President Sadyr Zhaparov discussed the issue of eliminating long-standing waste accumulations, the so-called "garbage mountain." The plant's general director confirmed to the head of state that the technical capability to process these deposits is present, and work on this will begin soon.
Furthermore, the mayor emphasized that thanks to this one plant, three more have been built and launched.
