Campaign to combat gender-based violence launched in Bishkek

Bishkek, Nov. 25,2025 /Kabar/. Today, the annual international campaign "16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence" began at the National History Museum in Bishkek on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against women.

According to the Bishkek mayor's office, this year the campaign is being held under the general slogan "Unite to end violence against women" as part of the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. The campaign will continue until December 10, International Human Rights Day.

The event was opened by Edil Baisalov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, and Antje Grawe, UN Resident Coordinator in Kyrgyzstan. The event was also attended by representatives of government agencies, international organizations, civil society, the private sector, the media community, and Deputy Mayor of Bishkek Victoria Mozgacheva.

Panel discussion entitled "Fearless digital freedom: Security for Everyone!" was held at the opening ceremony. The discussion focused on discussing the phenomenon of digital violence, identifying gaps in legislation and practice, and developing multi-sectoral responses.

The campaign includes number of information and educational activities. These include participation in the National Dialogue on "Equal rights and safety of women", thematic meetings, flash mobs in large shopping malls, training seminars for social workers, meetings with parents and teachers, classroom hours in schools, as well as free medical care for women and girls and assistance to vulnerable groups.
